A paradox of African development is that while it is the richest landmass on earth, it is also the place where the majority of the poorest nations are found. The continent produces all the important minerals modern nations need to be technologically advanced. However, none of the African nations have, to date, been able to harness the growth capacity from these natural resources to the ultimate benefit for its peoples.
I could not help but see the parallel when in the movie the Black Panther, a fictional African nation has relied on a natural resource, vibranium, to become arguably the most scientific country in the world. Vibranium is clearly a magical mineral that is the foundation of Wakandan culture, economy, and politics. Wakanda commands respect among the nations of the world for its technological prowess.
This of course begs the question: how come this has not happened in real life?
