Akwasi Osei

Gwendolyn Elizabeth Brooks was a writer, poet, and teacher. On this day in 1950, she became the first Black person to win the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for her collection, Annie Allen.




 

Emma C. Clement was on this day in 1946 elected “American Mother of the year” by the ‘American Mothers Committee of the Golden Rule Foundation. The group was founded by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.






 

Maxie Cleveland ‘Max’ Robinson was born on this day in 1939 in Richmond, Virginia. He was the first African American major news anchor in the US when he anchored ABC World News Tonight from 1978 and 1983.
