The first ever Martin Luther King Jr. holiday was celebrated on this day in 1986 across the nation.


 

On January 20, 2009, Barack Hussein Obama, was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States.

After decades in military and civilian service, Colin Luther Powell becomes the 65th Secretary of State of the US. He is sworn in on this day in 2001 by President George W. Bush, the first Black in that position that placed him fourth in line to be President.
