Today in 1969 marked a dark day in American Justice. On December 4, 1969, two leaders of the Black Panther Party, Fred Hampton, and Mark Clark, were murdered in their beds by the Chicago Police.


On this day in 1833, the American Anti-Slavery Society was formed by, among others, William Lloyd Garrison, Arthur Tappan, and Frederick Douglass in Philadelphia. It was later headquartered in New York City.
The first African American Greek letter organization, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, was formed on this day in 1906 on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Seven Black college students felt the need ‘for a strong bond of brotherhood among African descendants in this country’: Henry Callis, Charles Chapman, Eugene Jones, George Kelly, Nathaniel Murray, Robert Ogle, and Vertner Tandy.
