Lewis Howard Latimer died on this day in 1928. Latimer is considered one of the greatest inventors, a Black man whose inventions underscore his importance. He owned patents for inventions as different as the incandescent light bulb and a toilet system for railroad cars.

As a draftsman for the Edison Electric Light Company, he oversaw the installation of electric lights in cities such as New York, London, and Philadelphia.
