Morgan Freeman, Academy Award-winning actor, director, and narrator was born on this day in 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee.
On May 31, and June 1, 1921, a White mob made up of city, state and other local leaders led the destruction of the Greenwood Business District in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This area, known as the Black Wall Street, was a 35 square blocks of, among others, hotels, stores, lawyer offices, doctor offices, and other types of businesses. The incident has been called the Tulsa race massacre, the Greenwood Massacre, and the Tulsa Pogrom. Planes were also used in the destruction, clearly indicating that it was the first documented incident where planes were used to terrorize American citizens.
