Stokely Standiford Churchill Carmichael, also known as Kwame Ture, was born on this day in 1941. He was a life-long organizer and theoretician of the Black Movement in America and worldwide. At different times, he headed three major organizations active in the struggle: The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, the Black Panther Party, and the All-African Peoples Revolutionary Party.
