On this day in 2020, Breonna Taylor was murdered in her bed by three Louisville, Kentucky policemen who were looking for a former boyfriend of hers. Her murder led to a resurgence of active social protests against police brutality.
On this day in 1947, John Wesley Lee, Jr, became the first Black commissioned officer in the US Navy. There was much backlash from civilians, including death threats. He served in the Navy till 1966.
